Oh, I got used to the characters, I just doesn’t find them interesting.
The fact that “The Haven” is making deals with the smokes is not surprising, in fact I guessed it the moment it bought up how the fact the idea of “The Haven" is a impossibility. Of course, this is might only because the books has been out for over a decade and the same idea has been used over and over.
might as well finish the first book at least.
That I’ll do. It’s kind of frustrated, I do love the premises and love the first part. But for some reason the new characters just simply doesn’t click with me. I am now in “The Haven”, something is not right here, it might get interesting.

The Passage - Justin Cronin, just as I feared. Just like the first time (over a decade ago), I felt myself losing interest as time skip hits. The new characters were many and … uninteresting. Many are killed off before even fully developed, which dulled the effect. Currently chapter 46, bit eager to finish it up.
Staring at GRRM and Rothfuss
I finished the book earlier this year, however, I find myself not liking the main character so much.
Yup, which is one of the reason why it interests me at first (I like big books and I can not lie), I believe what turned me off the first time is the time skip (90 years?) from Part I to Part II. I have invested in those characters in Part I and can’t accept that they simply doesnt exist anymore in Part II.
Lets see how a decade effects my point of view.

I was wondering if I was reading the book right with that description.
This actually seen fun. Lets roll.
The Talisman started good, but I felt it kind of boggled down during mid story and the end didnt hit as hard as it should.
I always hoped for a third book which both Straub and King had planned for (although Straub had said he won’t be able to keep up with King anymore), but with the passing of Straub this will never be.
Many writer wrote short stories in periodicals while working on another job before they made it big.
Stephen King published many short stories while working in a laundromat and later as a teacher early in his career.
